I Smell Gas Help
Ok so when you park the truck you can smell gas by the fuel fill door area, and after a wile you can smell it on the driver side. The smell is defently coming from the tank area. And now it takes a wile to biuld up fuel pressure to start. i have looked and can't find any fuel leaks anywhere. i need to do some welding on the exaugst soon so i need to get this fixed soon. any ideas on where it's coming from
Thank you everybody

The same thing happened on my 93 V6 pickup. It turned out to be the fuel line that comes out of the tank on the top. Its a common problem because road grime and water lay up in there. You can drop the tank or lift the box. Any radiator shop will rebuild with new lines coming from the fuel pump.

Just did mine. Turned out to be the actual tank leaking from the side seam. Replaced the tank, the gaskets, and the cap with hard lines and the hardlines them selves. took about 4 hours. Oh yeah, make sure you have a helper. Getting that thing back in can be a HUGE PAIN IN THE ARS!! Thats how I broke my hard lines. Good luck.

IMHO - its the fuel lines - there's a "U" or 90deg bend there that rusts through.
Reach in a feel around.
Ya gotta drop the tank.
Probably have to replace the pump bracket as well.
Common problem on this era truck/4Runner.
Just had mine redon

sorry, i farted...
the fuel cap might be hooped. not sealing properly. are you getting the hissing sound when you remove the cap still?
i'm surprised no one has mentioned either of those yet

I don't know about 2nd gen 4 runners but 1st gens you can pull up the carpet under the rear seat and there is a inspection hatch that you can get to the sending unit with out dropping the tank.
may want to check for that.

I have seen the vent line at the cap rust through and the smaller hose just sit there and breathe in and out dust and grime .
take a 2 foot section of hose and a wet shop rag stick the hose into the filler neck then push the wet rage around it to make a seal then blow air into the tank and listen for air leaking. you will find out real quick if the tank is holding pressure.
