5.29's Does brand matter?

Ok, well I'm stepping up to 35's soon, and am going to re-gear to 5.29s. I am just wondering what brand I should be looking at. 4wheelparts has both front and rear by "genuineGear" or some such thing for $129.99 each. What is everybody running?

stay the hell away from genuine gear!

Everyone that I know that has run them is on their 4th or 5th set...

I recommend Precision Gear...go to their website and watch the videos on how they are made and you will see why....

I've been wondering the same thing, there is about 5 or 6 popular brands out there. Yukon is what is see the most though.

Brand isn't as important as setup.

BTW - Genuine Gear is made by Richmond, same as the vast majority of "Yukon" gears...

So in theory, as long as they are setup properly, I should be fine with any brand?

I've got precision 5.71's - they were obviously set up so well that I have not yet had an issue. But if you read Zuk's site (gearinstalls.com) he talks about the fact that 5.71's are as strong if not stronger than 5.29's and he explains why. Either way if you get someone to do it well, you'll be happy for a long time!

Yep.

More importantly, if you don't set them up properly, you will not be happy, no matter how good the gears are.

ZUK @ gearinstall.com rocks, Check his site. Shoot him an e-mail. I'm very happy with my set up. He's got a good reputation. Knows loads about Toyota thirds.
