it seems everyone is against body lifts but why.they r awesome for extended tire clearance.why r they bad.ide just like to here everyones opinion.ive also found them handy to hide stuff under the truck like extra gas tanks and air tanks.and they make it alot easier to pull the motor with the firewall a little higher above the top bolts.give me ur .02 worth.

I think because its been covered to Death. Body lifts raise the center of Gravity, etc etc. I have a 1" body lift on my 4runner, so I can't preach too much against it. But a 1" is about all I would do.

 

i 3in. bl with no problems. and my 35s dont rub at all. and have room for 37s without rubbing, so i like the BL. if your looking for extra lift with out cutting fenders it the way to go, you get more clearance with out lifting all your drivetrain wich wil raise your cog

 

i have a 3 inch suspension and dont want to put out the bucks for a 6 inch to run 36 or 37 inch tires i was thinking of a 3 inch body and a 2 inch drivetrain lift.

 

I know plenty of people who run body lifts no problem.
Buy a quality kit, and make sure its installed properly, whether that be
by you or a professional, just make sure everything's done right.

I like body lifts because you don't weaken the suspension with a cheap
diff drop style or leaf spring blocks.

 

I got a 1 inch from Wabfab. I can run 33's with a little rubbing with my worn out leafs. I don't think that I would bo more than that, YMMV. It made doing dual cases alot easier. I did it to clear the 33's until I get my lift kit and go with 35's, and cut down on the trimming when I do it.

Have you ever heard of Roger Brown or www.4crawler.com off-road? This guy is a veteran lift maker/wheeler. He makes body lifts and sells them as well as wheels his Toyota often.

When a veteran of the industry gives advice, I would listen and take his word. He endorses body lifts as an OK mod.

I have a 3" on both my p/u and 4Runner with no problems ever.

 

I've got a 3" on my 4runner and love it. Screw the haters. Makes it much easier to work on the truck.

 

Most people are against them from the standpoint that they are often installed on vehicles where it's not safe to do so. I've seen many cases of the body ripping off the frame in the event of a roll because the body mounts were rusty and weakened to start with, then that extra 3" inches of leverage was all it took to rip them off completely. I don't like big body lifts (3-4") because of that extra leverage. You're putting a huge shear load on a bolt that really isn't all that big. I have 1" of body lift on my bed only to clear shock mounts that were built before I decided to put the stock bed back on.

well I got 2" body but i also have 4 1/2" suspension. I think a combination of both is actually necessary but its not a good idea to have too much body. While body lifts give you tire clearance, thats absolutely all they do (besides make it a fraction easier to work on your motor/ tranny but thats not why we put them on). They make your truck tippier, and they don't give you any extra ground clearance except for what the bigger tires will bring. Also if you go too high it kind of looks funny because you can see the frame and undercarriage and they're still low, and there's your truck looming way above it all...

They are a hell of a lot cheaper and easier to install I'll give it that.

I got the oversized blocks (2.5" instead of 2.0") and i got stainless steel bolts. and new poly body bushings.
And i've been in a rollover, and none of the bolts sheared.

 

Of course they raise the COG but they do less, that is they lift the body which is relatively light, instead of the frame, suspension drivetrain which will raise the COG higher with more weight.
