Curious what everyone's experience is with their rim size. I am specifically looking at using a 15x8-15x10 rim with a 12.5 wide tire (i.e. 33x12.5, 35x12.5, 37x12.5) on a 15'' rim. I have heard different ideas, many just preference. Such as a smaller width rim (within reason) will hold the bead better. What are your thoughts?

I honestly like the 15x8 look with the 12.5 wide tire, but as far as practicality goes... not sure what works better

 

8" wide for a 12.50 and 10" wide for a 14.50

 

You should use the narrowest rim that a tire will fit on. In this case it is the 8". I read a long time ago that the rule of thumb was to use a wheel that is approximately 4" narrower than the tire - if you use too wide a wheel you are more likely to pop a bead when you air down.

 

I run a 15 x 8 with 3.75 backspaceing with my 12.5 and you would never know they are only 8" rims. The tires fit them so well and when airing down they work fine never a issue with tire rolling off. I tryed the 10"s and the 8"s just look and work better for my use but you may have different uses in mind but 8's should be fine for most anything unless you go to a 13.5 or wider

 

I run a 12.5 wide tire with a 15x10 rim and it works great for me. My friend has a 8 inch wide rim with 12.5 tire and I like mine a lot more.

 

ya i'm using 15x8's, thats what I have used before, have also used 15x10 and like the 8's alot better. Just wondering what ya'll have to say about the subject. But thats the main thing I have heard is that too wide of rim will cause you to pop beads to easily (from experience).

So you guys with 15x10's, what made you chose that size? Just for looks or what?

 

the tires look a lot bigger with 10s.. Ive had both and I like 10s if you have beadlocks

 

I have 15 x 7 on my rig, I really like them. I run 10 psi on the trails and have no problems with the bead. The tires will wear out faster with a 7 or 8'' rim.

 

i have 15x8s with 36x13.50s they work fine but i am adding a set diy beadlockes which will change my rim size to a 15x9 1/2

 

I used to run 15x10s on my 33s and then on my 35s. I would air down to 14 pounds or so and never had a problem. I just picked up a set of 35s on 15x8s and so far they have been great. I now air down to around 9 pounds and haven't had any problems yet. My 8s have less back spacing than my 10s, so they rub my springs a little more, but that will be fixed soon. Over all I'm happy with the 8s.
