Price check aisle two: 84 Pickups
Howdy. Well now, I just took a look at a pickup that I found on craigslist. It's an 84 22r 4x4 5spd short bed. It has a brand new clutch, recent valve job (less than 100 miles ago), new timing guides, and new slave (cylinder to reservoir), and a couple other mechanical doo-dads. Has 215,000 miles on the body, but the engine was replaced ~50,000 miles ago. The owner's done all the maintenance (he's a mechanic for the city of san antonio), and the motor looks in very good condition. The body is absolutely beautiful for 84. No dents or dings, just two small rust spots on both sides where about 6" of body trim behind the door half way up on the bedside fell off. Has a black rollbar with 2 KC hi-lights, a bullbar with two fog lights. Paint job looks nice, it's that rustic red. It's only had 2 previous owners, both being older men. Doubt this truck has ever exceeded 65mph. The dude was asking $3000 for it on the ad, but when I came to take a look at it he said he'd let it go for $2500, so I'm thinking motivated seller? Think this truck is worth $2500 (I mean the NADA retail value on it is only $1500 so...), or should I tell him $2000 or no cigar vodka and caviar?
The second truck I was looking at was a 84 22r 4x4 4/5speed manual (wasn't too clear on that part) long bed. I'm going to go take a look at it today around 6:00. The ad said that it was running when it was parked a year ago, but now it wont start, so I'd definitely appreciate some thoughts on what to check for that. Dude is asking $500. Exterior doesn't look too bad from the pictures.
So, what would yall do? Don't say buy both, because I just don't have garage space. Already have 3 vehicles, so once I get the 4th, no more room... Appreciate the input yall!

i think it depends on what you plan to do with them and if u feel like going through a truck that has been sitting for a year.
Taking into effect of what the long bed needs to run, verses the really nice short bed for 2000-2500, can u make the long bed that nice and in the same running condition for 1500 to 2000?
edit) as for the truck not starting, id look at the fuel system and ignition, also timing or a bad timing chain could be the reason.

I would buy it... I paid 2k for mine with 260k on it and had to do a minor rebuild shorty after due to a clogged cooling system. the one for 500 bucks doenst sound too bad but it COULD(might not) have a lot problems. Ask yourself... Why did the truck sit for a year, Maybe it has some problems so they stopped driving it and now that it wont run they can sell it without reveling any major problem.
