Truck update with pictures (I hope)
Well tracking down a decent pre 86 Toyota is a pain in the butt. Most guys don't want to part with them unless they are on their last legs or they want a fortune for one. In the pictures you'll see a white 81 that I was drooling over but the guy wouldn't return my calls so I dropped it and started calling on the orange/red one.
The taller of the two is geared to 5.29 with a detroit in the rear, spool in the front, 22re (fuel injection!!) motor and a 5 speed. It's got some custom drivshafts and a whole bunch of piston/cam/intake/ stuff in the motor that I don't understand.
My primary concern is that it's dependable, gets 20+ on the street, all the gauges work and it has been used as a commuter as well as rock rig for the past couple of years.
Looks like I might finally have a DD that I can take out to the mountains here.
3800$ seems a little steep so we'll have to see if he'll ease down a bit.

^^ All my gauges work, 340k later. Go Figure
Anyway, neither of those trucks came stock with a 22re (I Think). If it did it was super rare, so go into it knowing somebody has done a motor swap.

Motor swap, look close for rust on frame, floor of cab and bed. Make sure the 4x4 works too. Seems steep, but if it runs good it sounds like a fare price for the efi. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
