Thumbs up Storing 85 4Runner

I have a 85 4Runner DLX w/auto trans-factory sunroof-22re. Not a rust bucket. All interior is original and complete, as well for the body. I'm thinkn of storing it away because I do have the space to keep it out of the weather. I currently have an 88 sr5 which is pretty much a daily driver. Trucks have not been cut up or modified. Thinkin of a keeper for my 7-month old son to have when it comes time for him to drive. YES, he would have RARE 4WD TOYOTA 4RUNNERS. Anyone saving 4WD TOYOTAS FOR THEIR CHILDREN TO ENJOY.

Will you adopt me?

I could use an '85 4runner right now! You wouldn't even have to store it for me!

Just kidding, I think my truck will be far from stock by the time any of my spawn get their hands on it. I just hope it will last that long!

85 4Runner

Usually most fathers are involved in restoring vehicles. Im suprised you guys arent willing to pass on future projects. 1st Gen 4Runners are hard to find in decent shape nowadays. Yes, they are 20 years old now. Imagine another 20years. 1st gen trucks will be harder to find especially w/ removable tops.

When I began driving my dad and I restored the 84 4Runner that he bought new back in 84. What a great project! I know that it will stay in the family for years to come.

For some reason it's never occurred to me to try and "restore" an old toyota.

I guess maybe because I always though of doing that with an old car or something. In a few months, I'll be helping my father in law restore his '68 camaro. It's not going to be a crazy $100k resto or anything, just getting it to look and drive as it should.

As much as I love Toyota's, I have never been able to keep one long enough. Something always happens. And that makes them seems disposable, like "Oh, I'll be able to find another one". Maybe when I can't find any more, I'll try and restore one.

I'm fairly positive that my Surf's previous owner must have only ever used it for winter driving, because it was/is in imaculate shape and when i called up the previous owner (besides she was mad that i found her number) she said it wasn't used much. when i bought the Surf it only had 97,000 miles on it!!!!!!!! i would totally Store an 85, just mak sure to put some sort of additive to all the fluids, so that they don't ruin the parts.

Change all the fluids. Add stabilizer to the gas. Jack the truck up and have it on blocks or jackstands to the frame. But I would start it up and let it run every month or so, also take it aroud the block a few times to keep everything lubed up and a-ok.

I dont know about boxed frames but i know that on an open c channel frame you are not supposed to put it on jack stands because it adds stress to the frame over time.

Hmmm....maybe I need to start looking at another 'old Yota' to buy and restore. I like the 1st gen pickups myself.
