If gas reaches a little over $4.00 a gallon, I'll have to trade cars. I'm debating between a 4 Banger Taco that is a 5 speed, or a 00-01 Celcia GTS (6 Speed). What do you guys think? I'd probably sell for close to $8800-9000.

 

Celica GTS will take premium fuel, so remember that. Gets about 30MPG. And kind of a girly car, if you ask me, but then again, I have a Civic. Personally, I would just get another beater car. I have a beater Civic and it gets 40MPG. Maintenance is cheap and almost non-existent. It's SO nice having two cars. Plus, you really learn to appreciate the 4Runner after driving the Civic (and sometimes, vice versa).

Lord, gas is killing me with these 285's. 14 in the city. OMG. I was told going lower gearing would hurt it worse.

 

no keep your runner but buy a really used civic or something to use as a get around vehicle. thats what i will do

 

I'll be keeping my 4Runner no matter what. I was looking around town for a sub $1000 gas sipper that needs a couple weekends of work that I could use as a commuter/grocery getter, and save my truck for the trail. With gas prices going the way they are, I'm looking MUCH harder now.

on this fuel topic, i do remember reading a while ago about a huge huge huge oil supply in the gulf of mexico. its supposed to be done in like 5 more years and then gas is supposed to go down to like $2 dollars a gallon and help save our economy. maybe its all crap, but ill try and find an article on it.

omg not 14mpg ... im lucky if i get 10...260km a tank...and gas is WAY more expensive in canada...i dont know how you guys over there complain...in europe its like 6 bucks...

There is a big difference between profits and profit margins.

Although, elected politicians hope that you and others don't figure that out because it will ruin their "us against them" campaign speeches.

 

i'm buying an 80s VW this summer and keeping the 4runner too. i'm getting 10mpg and it sucks, but i don't drive much anyway. i can ride my bike in the summer, drive the economical car while roads are good, then break out the 4X4 in winter and fun trips on rough terrain. i say buy an additional economical 4 cylinder and keep your 4runner too.

 

I agree with keeping the Runner and buying a beater to commute. Those big tires aren't helping you any either get rid of those unless you spend 80% of your time off road.

I bought a $2500 1999 Honda Accord 4 banger with 80K on the clock. It gets 30 MPG and has required very little maintenance. Best decision I've made on cars really. Now the Runner stays in the comfy garage and comes out to play on weekends and pretty days. Keeps the miles off of it too. I used to put about 1200 miles a month on it. Now I'm lucky to get 400 a month. Helps keep its value.
