Bobing 2nd Gen 4Runner?

I did a search and found an article on Pirate about it but no pics and I dont think he did the same thing I want to do.

I want to cut about 12" or so off the back of my runner. Ive got a pretty good aproach angle up front and id like to have the same out back.

Right now im running 63" chevies so im gonna swap them in place of my 5" lift toy springs. That way I can cut a little more off.

what I want to do is take 12" off and retain the rear glass, hatch and all that. The only thing is I would be getting rid of the rear side windows, which seems to be a pretty common break on the trail anyway, and just replace with sheet metal. I dont think it would be too hard. Of course I probably wouldnt be able to keep most of the interior plastic in the back, but oh well.

Anyone done this before? Have any thoughts on it? What kind of issues might I run into?

Heres a side pic of the truck when I bought it. I cant find any recent side pics of it. Anyone wanna photochop it?

Well I looked the truck over breifly a few mins ago and there arre a couple of issues.

The body mount would need to be moved. I dont think thats a big deal.

The interior pieces would either need to be trimmed or removed alltogether.

i wouldnt have much room at all in the back. Which thats not too big of a deal except for camping. Maybe get a little off road trailer.

But im definatly gonna look into this some more.

Just cut it.

No one is going to be able to give you a detailed list of issues, since each bob job is unique.

Cut it off, and start fabbing and welding to make it fit. Its that simple.

As for room in the back, uh, yeah. Not sure how that surprised you. That seems to be the most obvious issue.

The easiest and best way to do this would be to go 4hummer style. seal the cab behind the rear seats, and make the back end a pick up. Trying to find glass that will work in the rear will be just a little short of impossible.

I really dont like the looks of that though, looks like a Honda Ridgeline if you ask me. Im not going to put glass back in the rear side ones, just sheet metal.

In that case, git er done.

May want to start it soon, as by the time you get all the fab done, the weather should be warming up enough for the massive bondo job you'll have.

Wow! Im thinking cut a little less out. Maybe leave like 4" behind the wheel well. I cant get that to work with leaf springs. Theres a lot more window than I thought too.

I see that you already have the leaf springs mounted. If you have a new side view I'll do a chop on it also.

My first picture also looks like a Dakar car.

Perfect!

just what I want. I wonder what he used for the window? I looked on Pirate to see if he posted anything up on the bob but came up with nothing.
