fuel tank woes

Today it was finally warm enough for me to venture out and work on my truck (89 ext.cab 4x4 w/22re). I was dropping the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump (this is the second time). While I was lowering the tank, The nozzle that accepts the fuel hose broke off of the tank! After close inspection, I found rust all the way around just below where the hose was clamped to the nozzle! The rest of the tank was rock solid! If I remove the broken off piece from the hose, can I rejoin it to the tank w/ some type of epoxy? If that isn't feasible and I can't find a tank from a 4x4, will a tank from a 2x4 work? The weather is suppose to take a down turn again so I'll have time to scour some of our finer junk yards! Thanks in advance!

While I'm not sure of the strength of it in this situation, I know that there are fuel safe epoxies available, since we used to use the stuff to repair small holes in gas tanks at my old job. It was great for that, and would probably work for the fill fixture, but I'd recommend researching some more, first.

The best solution would probably be to track down a decent used one, though.

Now I don't know 100% but couldn't you grind that section flat and just drill and tap a new hole for the line and pump to connect to?
