throttle position = 8% at idle, normal?

according to my OBD scan tool, my throttle position is 8% at idle...not going into OPEN LOOP at WOT. Should it be 8%? I have heard I may need a new TPS sensor or adjustment to the throttle cable. 98, s/c, 5spd, 3.4L.

how do you know if the throttle cable is tight enough or not?

thanks in advance yall!

Don't know about the % opening but I've always adjusted the cable so there is as little slack as possible. Adjust it with the engine off, tighten until the throttle moves slightly then back off a bit. Not very scientific I know but you just have to get a feel for it.

Mine I think was at about 9% at idle. My engine is pretty much stock though, the S/C may be making a difference.

Like the thread Jamie posted from ultimateyota, pull the positive battery terminal for 10 minutes so it resets the ECU, then fire up your scan tool and give it a go!

some of you might remember me askin about my rev limit problem on my 3.4, but could not going into open loop cause a my motor to "cut-out" at 4k rpms?

I've got one of those scan tool / mileage computer combos, and mine is at 11%. Thougt it might be the device so I put it on the Ford Taurus and it read 0% at idle which to me made more sence since there was no throttle being applied.

My idle at operating temperature is 750rpm, engine is stock, 17.5mpg and it runs fine
but that 11% on the Runner has bugged me, guess I'll do some reading and stay tuned here to see if I can get it adjusted down.
