Stupid Stereo Install Problem - Stripped Screw on 4x4 Shifter

I bought a 97 limited about 4 months ago that had a really old aftermarket stereo in it and a couple months ago I pulled out an extremely ancient hands free system that had seeminly been installed by professionals. I had to pull off the A pillar exterior to pull some wires out, only to find that whoever installed it had lock-tited all their screws (it seemed).

I was just trying to install a new stereo and the first thing I went to do was to pull the screw out of the 4x4 shifter. Well it stripped right off the bat, and I can only assume it was lock tited. So I used a strip screw removing bit, which did pretty much jack all, and eventually the head broke off. Now I have the end portion of the screw still stuck in there, and I attempted to drill it right out but to no avail. Here's the problem now. I COULD try and keep screwing in around it, probobly eventually ing up the threads. Would this screw me? (No pun) My big concern is I have the shifter with the push button 4-high. If I keep dicking around in there, am I going to screw up my 4 wheel? Possibly hit some wiring?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
