Thumbs down Fuel tank lift - unsuccessful

Well, I tried today. I did some internet searching and found a few threads on other forums, where they had lifted the fuel tank on a Runner. All of them consisted of a 2-3" BL though, and I only have a 1". After pulling the skid plate off the gas tank, and removing the tank, there is an exact same set of holes where you can bolt the front end of the tank about 2" higher. For the rear, there is a bracket that can be trimmed and welded x" higher. My conclusion is you have to have at least a 2" BL. A 1" BL might work, but you have to pound the body up quite a bit where the front of the tank bends up, and I wasn't willing to do that.

I think I'm going to weld another skid plate to the factory fuel tank plate, since it seems flimsy. Out of curiousity... has anyone done a fuel tank lift with a 1" BL?

you need the 2" bl to make it work as the brackets you are moving your g/t up on are 2" thick. 4crawler has a write up on doing the g/t lift. if you are going to that much trouble, you should think about doing the drive train lift at the same time.

just my .02.

Yeah, I realized that once I moved the tank lol. With a 2" BL it seems like a very easy mod though. Definitely worth doing.
