Possible 84 1/2 4runner

I may be able to get a 4runner with no engine in it for really cheap. It's set up for a 22re so I was wondering how much a rebuilt 22re would cost. If I get this I would sell my 4x4 and get around $1,500 out of it for tires and an engine for the runner. Is it possible to do this or do rebuilt engines cost over 1k? I hope not!

that is totally possible,

some rebuilt engines cost over 1k, but there are many options below 1k

Our rebuild was $850 and we got over 150k miles out of it.

150 and then it died, or 150 and still good? Where did you get it from?

sweet, yeah I've been watching ebay and it seems like I could get a block and head, but I would need EVERYTHING, intake & exhaust manifolds, whatever mounts the engine to the auto transmission, EFI components, that sort of stuff. I would like to have someone install it for me but that would cost even more. I have also thought about contacting "Zman" (Mark) hes pretty close and he has 4runners out the wazoo so he might even have a manual transmission I could get also. I'll be on the lookout, but I still don't know for sure if I'll be getting it or not. The guy I'm hopefully getting it from is on a local ttora board and he sent me a message to call him but he didn't leave it! Drove me nuts cause I want to know more about this runner....ANYWAY, looks like I'm just gonna have to be patient with this one.

i see complete engines in Y/T classifieds every once in a while. just be careful about piece partin one together. heads are of different heights which will screw up timing chain choice.

Yeah I'm wanting to get a complete rebuilt engine with everything on it, I'm kind of leary on piecing them together, I know different years have different charachteristics from the new job taking the heads apart. I have an extra engine, but it's got 316k on it and needs timing done as well as a conversion to EFI and a new exhaust manifold, so I'm wanting something that will last a while.
