Weird Oil Leak

Hey guys....About a week ago my Tacoma started to leak oil. I got a chance to get under it tonight to take a look at it, and it looks and feels like oil....but it doesn't have a smell. Its the weirdest thing, the area around the oil drain plug and oil pan is dry. Underneath the filter is a little moist, which is weird because I did my oil change myself a couple months ago so I don't know why the filter would suddenly start leaking. But the front diff seems to have oil on and around it, but the oil doesn't smell, feel, or look like gear oil so I don't think its leaking from the front diff. I'll have a better oppurtunity to check it out tomorrow at work., but I was wondering if you guys had any ideas? Could the axle be leaking? Again it looks like and feels like oil, but it doesn't smell like anything so I don't really know what kind of fluid it is.
Thanks for the help.

check your breather hose. Ive seen quite a few blow gear oil out the breather. Sometimes all it takes is clearing out the breather and servicing the diff

I have had two Fram filters leak at the seam. One was so bad I had to turn off the engine before it ran dry. The other was just a seep but it would leave a drop of oil every day on my garage floor. Wipe off the area and then check it the next day. Wash the whole engine suspect area for that matter.

If you were i a hurry the old seal could of stuck to the block and now you have to seals. Any time i have been around that it usually blew both out.
its easy to miss if your rushing and sometimes hard t see.

exactly! i have had that happen to my mom's accord. the old oil filter's seal stuck to the block and when i put on the new one, about 500 miles later there was a leak. a bad one at that

find some large white poster board and put it under your truck to see where the leak is coming from... first i would clean everything very well but not that necassary

First off, if you leave the old seal on there, it will definately blow out and FLOOD the floor under your truck. They do not DRIP. Second, what did it taste like.lol

I got a chance to check it out yesterday...replaced the filter just to be sure, but it still leaks, so I don't think its filter related. It looks like oil but I can't help but think its the front diff. I don't know where else my oil would leak from unless it was from the oil cooler or rear main seal. Seems to be coming from the front of the engine though. The front diff has fluid on and around it, but I checked it and its full and clean so I don't know.....I have a feeling its going to be an expensive fix..which sucks because I don't have any money. Damn....I guess I'll have to get it checked out and Toyota or my mechanic when I have time.

go as foward as you can find oil, it will blow back over everything and be hard to find, try getting some degraser and going to the car wash and get everything really clean and be looking for oil to start messing up things again.
It could be something simple wind is just blowing it everywhere

Mine had the same symptoms and it was my front main seal. Check under the front of the motor where the oil pan meets the block. Then look at the starter wire plastic harness (it's white) that runs across. Is that all wet?

I did it myself. The seal was cheap but it was a lot of work.
