I'm going to put a new exhaust thru my 2.4ltd surf,
I'm just trying to figur out what size to go with, 2.5 or 3''.
im also thinking about putting twin exsaust in, I would like them to exit before the rear wheels tho, Is this possible?,
If not I will just make them exit just after the wheels.
Reason for changing exhaust is because i do not want to over heat my engine.

If I was you, I'd stick with single outlet 2.25" exhaust. You could go bigger, but it would not do you any more good, and would cost more.

I dunno, but I can imagine something 1-7/8 or 1.5 or something along those lines. I think 2.25 would be your best bet.

 

Dude, he has a Turbo Diesel. You should go to a 3", I have just a turbo on mine and that is what i will run. If you want to lower your EGTs you need to let the exhaust flow more effeciently and fast as possible.

 

Exactly... With a diesel you could 3 or even 3.5 if you wanted to with no cat or muffler and still gain performance...

Some of the big fords around here are running 4" into a 6" tip on the 6L diesels. You don't want backpressure after the turbo.

 

you still want a smooth exhaust flow. a 6L engine is signifigantly larger than what we're talking about.

Your best bet would be to try a toyota diesel forum. There are only a couple guys on here with diesels

 

It's turbo. Larger exhaust is better. There are hp ratings supported with exhaust diameter. I seriously doubt you'll gain anything going any larger than 2.5-3".

 

Go with a 2.5" straight pipe all the way back. Drop me a line if you need some details on how to keep that time bomb cool!

hhmm, too big of an exhaust is bad and too small of an exhaust is bad. This might seem stupidly simple minded of me, but how about pulling the exhaust manifold, measuring the outlet on the turbo and using the next biggest size tube you can find. Just an idea.

 

Exhaust gas temperature gauge. If you do a search for 'EGT' on toyotadiesel.com you'll find tonnes of info on how to & how not to blow the head off of that poor 2LT.

With a turbo, too small is bad. No disadvantage in going too big - other than cost and the issue of not getting any more power out of it.

EGT = pyrometer. Check www.gaugepods.com - they make the least expensive one that I've seen and it works well.

 

My bad. I forgot you had a turbo diesel. Go for 3", and do some stacks.

go for 3" even if that's not the optimal amount, it would still cut costs down, and be much better than stock exhaust.

Im thinking about doing a 3'' down pipe and 2.5 up till the Y interseciton above the diff and the from 2.5 to 2'25 sound good to you guys?

 

I don't know if this guy is still making these, but you may want to look into this as an option to make things breath better.
