Ok guys and gals I'm in need of some offroad rubber. I have had bfg MT's, Cooper STT's, Interco SSR, and Pro Comp MT's. My fav. by far are the Interco SSR's and the Cooper STT's. I'm in a bind my last Coopers I sold to myself and put them on my work truck which then a month later sold. I still have my unused Cooper spare leaving me needing 3 tires on a budget or 4 if I'm feeling spendy. I love the Interco SSR's because they are great for everything except long distance road driving. I loved the Coopers for the road drivability. SO I'm torn on which ones I should go with.

You list Nitto's in your signature. Is this a second set besides those?

 

Yes I have the on-road/ work set. Which are Nitto Terra Graps. I bought them last feb and will need replacements by early april. I got my 40-50k out of them.

Well, my .02 would be to get the SSR's, since you already have an on road set. If they performed well enough to give you that opinion, they are certainly worth the buy again. Buy the wheeling tires for wheeling, not for the street.

Well the Nitto's will be purchased again for sure I got my money out of them and keep singing there praises I have sold 2 more sets to friends I Love them. The only time the offroad tires will run the road is to and from events. Like the Palamino Rover Roundup in 2wks, Miami 4x4 Spring run, SE4RJ08 in june and whatever falls in btwn. They (SSR) ride like a set of square wheels but there is no performance compromise. Where as the STT's could be run on the road if left on by accident (laziness). They have great wet weather road traction but the drawbacks in offroad traction are obvious.

I love them both it's like the 2 sisters story.

SPINDLES,,,,, I saw those and I like your rig. I was thinking about the available sizes and acctual measure the LT285/75R16 has a OD of 33.1 the LT315/75R16 has a OD 34.5. The SSR's 285/75/16 OD is 33.9 . The STT 285/75/16 OD is 33.1. I did like the larger OD of the SSR when I had them I mean it'snot much but every little bit helps.

Hey Aaron, not to get off topic, but how was your gas mileage with the STT's and the 295 nittos? I want to get the 295's but wondering if they would adversely affect MPG's? I may jump on the Firestone MT bandwagon unless you can convince me otherwise

 

SSR's are great tires. I have a pic of it on my 4runner, check out the "sweet rigs" at page 9. you could see what it is like on the 4runner.

 

Mileage wasn't great witht he 285 SSR's because they are almost 34" in diameter. The 295 Nitto's are nice at 33.2". Keep in mind I have regeared to 4.56 's so on a good day when the o2 sensor is not acting up and I keep it under 2500rpm's on take off and on the interstate 18mpg most other times 16-17mpg.

For everyone else I have HAD SSR's I know what they are like I was just trying to get off the fence and decide which to get again.


SOmeone on TTORA just told me the truxus mt are offered in a 255/85/16,,,, could be good.

what about Pro Comp Xterrain? why not consider those?

 

Don't go with the truxus mt. A friend of mine runs them on his ford and they are splitting down the center. He only has 4k miles on them.

 

Have you considered the BFG MT KM2?

edit: just realized they're only available in 35's for a 16" rim

 

Had the BFG MT wasn't impressed not willing to try anything new since I know what I like. The x-terrains are out bcause they are directional and swappin a spare directional sucks cause if I had to field change a tire to get the direction right no thank you. I talked with another guy who acctually uses them for his rover and he gave me some insight.

Thats why I run just a general tire for my spare.

 

i would buy 3 STT's with your unused spare. You could use the $200 you save on a tire and get a scangauge II I think your 4runner looked great with the STT's, that is what is making me want to get them. You said you just ride overland trails and nothing too extreme, so the SSR's may be overkill. You said you really like the STT's anyway.
