Ordered dual Viair chrome 480's on Thursday to control my rear airbags and for tire filling. Should show up on Monday. Can't wait. I'll post pics when they get here. I'm going to mount one permanent and one quick disconnect for mobile use.

 

I have used those little airbags before for extra load carrying capacity and can tell you that they use very little air. You are way into the overkill/lots O air territory with you new purchase. I like that. You need to find more uses for all of the new air reserves!

 

I want to be able to refill my tires fast after an afternoon of four wheelin. Plus I have a Zodiac we take to Mexico for diving, they'll work great for filling it up.

 

How are you going to use one of these for mobile?

 

I'm going to use a quick disconnect power plug and a quick disconnect air fitting. That way I can take it with me in other vehicles or on the beach to fill my boat. Make a power cable with a set of heavy duty jumper cables.

 

I'm running a single 380C in my truck right now and I can attest that Viair makes a nice product. JUst don't touch it while its running unless you want a serious burn. Its unreal how hot they get.

What size tank are you going to use?

I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but for another $150 you can add a nice train horn to that from Siege Engineering...

 

My pumps showed up today. I have a 2.5 gallon tank already hooked up to my bags. These dual compressors will be set to a 145 psi switch already on the tank. I'm going to install a quick release fitting for an air hose for filling tires after a day on the trail. I had to lower my spare by 1" but it fits up in there like a glove.

 

I can finally say goodbye to my little friend.

 

I don't recommend the 2.5 gallon Viair air tank with your 480C dual compressors. Viair air tanks are rated 150psi working pressure.

 

I would not worry about that at all. 15 psi over working pressure? Psssssh.
Keep the tank and just get a different pressure switch or better yet, an adjustable switch.
But 165 psi is about useless really. Those compressors peak output is way down around 100 psi or even less if you are talking volume. And those bags sure don't need anywhere near 165. Airing up tires will drop the tank to below 100 psi instantly. I run my compressors and tank at 100-125 psi because that is peak output for volume and there is virtually no advantage to pressuring up above that.
I have an Oasis HP1000 on 24 volt and a Viair 450 also on 24 volt.
16 CFM on the Oasis but the Viair is continuous duty.

 

I tried mine at 180psi and the horns sounded like crap so I dropped the pressure back to 125psi. The compressor is happier there and the horn sounds better too. Not to mention I can drain it to almost nothing and it airs back up in a few minutes...

 

I have a145 psi switch on my tank. I'm not going to use the 200 psi one that came with the pumps. I only need a little bit of air for my bags, they only inflate to 30-35 psi. The rest will be for airing up my tires after 4wheelin.

 

Now you have air for:
Lockers
Train Horn
Air Bag Suspension
Filling up Tires
Air tools
Filling your boat.

I went the cheap route and went to the local pick'n'pull and got 2 80's cadillac air compressors (cadillac used them for air suspension) and they work pretty well, nothing like what your compressors will work like but then mine were $10 each

 

I would like to do lockers soon. Now that I will have air, it's only money holding me back.

 

Can you post pictures of were you mounted them? I'm very intrested in doing this with mine as well as twin air tanks.

I have a swing out tire so I put a 5 gallon air tank in the spot of the spare under the truck and both air compressors there, then I have a hose run to a 1.5 gallon air tank inside the cab this setup seems to work pretty well, haven't done my lockers yet so I don't know about how well it will work for those, but Ill try and post pictures tomorrow.

 

How are thise air pumps with water and mud, If I mount it were my spare was it will get alot of that. Not saying I will be fully submerging the pumps but it may happen from time to time.

They would be OK there IF you plumb the air intake/filter up into the cab so it always has a dry/relatively clean air supply. These compressors come with the intake extension hose and a mount to mount the air filter remotely.
I would recommend a bulkhead fitting and press fit compression fittings to pass the line through the floor. I got all of my parts from John Henry Foster.

 

I just went to my local osh and got all the fitting I needed and got some liquid reflon and some 600 psi orange hose and put it all together with hose clamps runs great. Ran a small k&n filter (the one made for cam breather) and mounted that on the end of the hoses for ventilation and it works great, the k&n is inside the cab btw. So it seems to work really well, I haven't gotten it deep in mud / water yet though. I'll keep you updated.
