no shut off

Friend asked me this question I have no idea hoping someone here can help, here a cut and paste of the question(s)...I turn the key off and pull the key out. I can still drive it? And sometimes it won't start? sometimes It will shut off but all the heaters radio and so on stays on then I gotta disconnect the battery? Just wondering if you have heard anything about that?

what year is his truck?

If its 89-older, is he pushing the button in the top of the steering column? The keys from the older trucks wear out and you can get the key in and out without shutting the truck off.

If its 1990+, I would say ignition switch for sure.

I would say replace the ignition. My old chevy did similar things. Like you could start drive and turn it off with a knife or a screw driver.. Never had the problem with a yota, but ignitions get worn and old just like anything else.

my old 4runner's ignition was worn out enough to pull the key out at any time. I used to start it in the winter and take the keys with me.

I drove to school one day and forgot my keys... I had to drive all the way back home just so i could shut my truck off
