Another clutch question...

Well I just installed my Marlin clutch yesterday and it went in beautifully. Very nice kit. My question is, now that I have it all together the clutch grabs right off the floor. I mean right off the floor. It all works fine and I can drive it around but the clutch is a hair trigger and with the new components its really easy to stall. I tried bleeding the clutch but it didnt do anything. Any suggestions? Is this normal or will it go away?

thanks

Andy

Look up under your dash. See where the clutch pedal connects to the master cylinder?

You can adjust that shaft for more or less free play. Maybe that will be enough to get the clutch were you need it to be.

I have no direct experience with Marlin clutches, but I do know that new clutches have felt "grabby" to me when I first install them.

I have no experience with Marlin clutches but I do know that a new cluck will grab very quickly. If you have a new flywheel or had the old one resurfaced it will be even worse. I'd drive it around a few days and see if it gets better.

give it at least 1500 miles. mine was done by a pro. that's really commom specially if you get the extra heavy 1600# model. the first few hundred miles i thought my clutch wasn't competely disengaged when the padle was pressed all the way done, also it makes a small noise. it's all good after about 1500 miles. it's 3000 now, just smooth sailing.

my OEM clutch made some noise too (when 1st installed), and now smooth and quiet.

i was tempted for the marlins clutch, but want this truck for a d.d.

but, i wonder if you can break it in by riding the pedal for a few minutes a day. (or till it cools down).
anyone ever do that?

Don't ride the pedal! Unless you want to replace your clutch soon... Just drive it lightly and no shifts over 3,000rpm for the first 3000miles or so

My 1200ftlb clutch from marlin feels just like stock

I have the 1200# clutch from marlin and I never had any grabbing issues, and as for the guy who didn't get it because his truck was a daily driver, so is mine and it feels like stock but it wheels like crazy.

Double-check the clutch bracket on the firewall, depress the clutch while you watch it and see if it has a crack. This is not uncommon & allows the clutch to depress without really releasing fully...

Mine was biting real quick like you described, but settled down after about 50-100 miles. Now it feels great!!!

Same here, was RIGHT on the floor after I put the Marlin Super HD kit in. A few hundred miles later and it's as easy to work as the factory clutch.
