Converting to Manual Hubs 1987 4Runner

Converting to Manual Hubs 1987 4Runner
Currently putting on factory manual Aisin hubs, in place of the factory auto-hubs. Got the hubs on there, with new nut/lock washer kit (thrust washer, adjuster nut, lock washer, lock nut) and now it's just the hub cover to put on.
My question is: does the bolt need to be used on the end of the axle? The FSM says there is a snap ring, but I just do not see where that would go, or why it would be necessary. Maybe they are referring to the SAS? The photo attached should explain what I'm talking about. Thanks.

Assuming the FSM is wrong and that a part it calls for is not a good way to be thinking. The snap ring is the MAIN point that holds the axle in place at the hub. The bolt and washer is a second backup......follow the FSM my friend.

Thanks everyone. There isn't a machined spot for a snap ring to go anywhere. But the bolt doesn't really do anything, not that I can tell, with the manual hubs. It would need a washer with a 'step' in it to actually hold the axle to what is around it. But I will put it back in the way everyone is saying.
I'm not assuming the FSM is wrong, it's just the translation and description that I think makes it refer to something else (the SAS?) (axle that originally had manual hubs?)
any other comments are appreciated...

You need to take the aluminum hub back off (the bottom piece) and put the snap ring on. The reason you dont see a place for the snap ring is because you already put the hub body on there.
Take it back off.
I repeat, take it back off.
Put the snap ring on the axle.
If you dont, the axle can freely move in and out. And its not going to move out. Its going to move in, when you turn, and try coming out of its hole. Then you are going to break things. Many things.
You also need to put that bolt w/washer on AFTER you re-install the hub body. Again, its a way to keep the axle from moving incase the snap ring breaks, and it would keep the hub body in place if for some weird reason the nuts holding the hub body ever failed.

Doing the same conversion myself later today - When the UPS man kindly delivers my Hubs.
The Snap Ring is about 1½ - 2" from the end of the axle that you can see there, under the Hub body. My 87 most definitely has Snap Rings.
When I removed my Axles the snap ring definitely was not obvious until I looked real close at what the hell was still holding the damn axles on!
Without the snap ring, you'd be able to push on the end of the axle you see there in the hub and it would move.

There was a groove for a snapring on my 89 that had automatic hubs. Take the lock-out off again, put the bolt/washer in the end of the axle, and lever out on that. When you pull the axleshaft out a little more, you'll see the snapring groove. put on a snap ring.

Do I get this straight, if I have simply removed my ADD flange and bolted on the manual hub, I have done something wrong? The hubs work properly, however I am now wondering if somehow, the CV is going to pull back.

DeathCougar and eveyrone here, I owe you a great deal of gratitude.
There IS a snap ring under the hub body. Correct, it keeps the axle from sliding IN. I will also put the safety bolt on the end of the axle.
The FSM (pages FA-29, FA-33) clearly shows that the snap ring is outside the hub body, under the hub cover, which is incorrect, or at least the way my PDF is showing and explaining.
Gawd I'm glad I posted here because otherwise that thing would have been loosy-goosy.

There is also a thrust washer that goes on the axle first, then the snap ring. Here's a pic so people know. I'm sure some of you guys are like, DUH. Who knows, maybe that snap ring didn't even need to come off for me to get the Auto Hubs off.
When doing the swap from Auto Hub to Manual, along with the new 'washer-adjuster nut-lockwasher-locknut' kit, these are the only 2 things that get re-used from when you took the old hubs off. Like I said, maybe I removed them unnecessarily. (see pic)
The hubs are on now, and they seem to work great... Now I have to clean the brake calipers and put 'em back on to get going.

That pic is actually pretty helpful Yopar - I can now see where the weird washer thing fits on behind the 54mm Nut.
Any other Tips? I think my kit came with 4 x 54mm Nuts. Do you only use 1 per side? With 2 spares, or am I missing something here?
