The engine ECU is behind the glove box. Your alarm ecu is under the drivers seat

Why would you need to get to teh engine ECU? You should only need to get to the alarm control unit.

uh no. The ECU for all 3rd gen 4Runners is located under the airbag behind the glove box.

1st and seconds have the ECU behind the pass side kick panel.

The engine ECU is not behind the pass side kick panel. if you found a computer box under there, its definetly not the main ECU. The ECU should have a part number of 89661-XXXXX and will be located under the airbag behind the black plastic upper cover/trim piece of the glove box.

Yes, my 1998 4runer LTD ECU is located behind the kick panel. The box is a metal case maybe 3x3 big. It says ECU on it with a string of numbers about 11 or 12 digits.

Then its either been moved, or you do not have a 98 4Runner. Imma go with moved. Every 3rd gen 4runner i have taken apart (about 15) have the ECU under the dash.

And the ecu isn't 3x3. More closer to 6x6. You probably found a ecu for some other part of the car. Like I said before...pre 96 ecu's were behind the kick panel

The ECU part number starts with 89661. What is the part number of the one under the kick panel in your 98?

Last time I checked, the unit behind the passenger side kick panel is the ABS ECU.

+1 my '98 Ltd ECU is below the airbag. There is an ABS one in one kick panel and I think a 4x4 one on the other side
