ECU Problem Need Help!!!!
I got my truck with the whole EFI engine Setup. However, I found out that it has 22r ECU. It runs a little rough in my truck and I want to run a 22re ECU to clear some problems, if it will???????. My motor was probley a 22r motor that was probably converted to a EFI because I have an 22r ECu. If so will it be beter if I ran a 22re ECU than a 22r ECU because my truck is running fair but it could be better.?? The diagnostic test shows that I have a error code 21 which is a oxygen sensor code. Neeed some help...?!?!? THnaks
This is the ECU I Have OEM#89661-35110.

22R engines are carburated and I don't think had a computer, and if they did they would not run your fuel injected engine as there are no fuel injectors in a 22r. If it is running then you have the right one. A ECU is only as good as the sensors that are telling it what to do so I would look at other things, first off your O2 sensor. The O2 sensor is very critical for proper engine performance.

mine says 22R also. and 22Rs DO have computers, just not nearly as important as the EFI models. if your ecu was from a 22r, the plugs wont line up. if i remember correctly, the plugs for the 22R are blue, and the plugs for the 22RE are green. both are different sizes, cant use one with the other

Im pretty sure that it is the right computer for the truck according to the chart. But Ive seen other computers that indicated its an "RE" ECU. Its throwing a error code 21. Should I just replace my o2 senor???!?!
Thanks Everyone.

I'm confused.. These guys have indicated that it's most likely the right ECU for your truck.
I'm not sure what you mean by running rough, but if I was throwing an 02 sensor code, I'd probably suspect that the 02 sensor might be bad (unless testing says otherwise).
There is an 02 diagnostic test procedure in the factory service manual. Otherwise replace it.
For more help than that - tell us how it's running rough and what kind of tune up history (if any) it has.
