Ok, I've lurked on this forum for years & discovered alot of great information. My curent 4Runner is my third 3rd gen. These are the greatest vehicles, ever.

Last week I developed an intermittent squeal / noise in the rear of my 4Runner. Sound was loudest when moving between 15 & 35 miles per hour & was drivetrain related (didn't vary w/ engine RPM...). Took it to a mechanic (private shop specializing in Toyotas). He had it for a whole day & tried to pin down the problem. At the end of the day, he said he still wasen't sure but thought it likely my rear end might be going out. Yike$$$.

I decided to research things @ YotaTech before getting out the BIG checkbook.... Searching found several threads suggesting a through lubing of all u-joints as a first solution. They were more "dry" than I expected (thought I have lubed them in the past year, but it didn't look that way...) & I pumped a lot of grease into them. Guess what? NO MORE SQUEAL!!
