91 3vze compared to 94 3vze
i have a 91 toyota v6, the engine blew head gasket, so i just bought a 3vze from a 94 toyota 4x4 auto, i was looking at the engines and noticed the 94 block doesnt have the oil cooler on it, it just has some kind of cover where the oil cooler would be, does anyone know what the differences are between the two engines

is the new engine 4wd the same as yours? (or 2wd, whichever it is)
The fan support is different as well. In 93 they switched to a hydraulic timing belt tensioner, thus requiring different heads and front fan support.
Of course the wiring harness and other subtle things will be different.

oh yah...I think the knock sensor will be the newer style so your eng harness won't plug into it. You can however take the sensor from your old eng and install it into your new one. I myself would buy a new one even tho they are spendy. Everytime I rebuild one of these I recommend replacing them because it never fails that you get it all back together and after 2 days you end up getting a code 71 (knock sensor). Insurance against having to tear the intake off again

For what it's worth, I would change the timing belt and WP before installing the engine (unless you have documentation it was done)
We swapped a 95 engine into a 91 truck. Same issues. We did the belt, WP, and swapped the oil cooler.

Yes thats where it is. No...3vz only has 1 knock sensor. There are 2 different styles. The early and the late style. The connector is the only difference. You ALWAYS replace the wire between the sensor and eng harness anytime you hafta pull the manifold off. Cheap insurance
