91 3vze compared to 94 3vze

i have a 91 toyota v6, the engine blew head gasket, so i just bought a 3vze from a 94 toyota 4x4 auto, i was looking at the engines and noticed the 94 block doesnt have the oil cooler on it, it just has some kind of cover where the oil cooler would be, does anyone know what the differences are between the two engines

is the new engine 4wd the same as yours? (or 2wd, whichever it is)

The fan support is different as well. In 93 they switched to a hydraulic timing belt tensioner, thus requiring different heads and front fan support.

Of course the wiring harness and other subtle things will be different.

Eng is the same, you will just hafta remember if you or anyone else is doing a tbelt to remember what year the motor is since it will take a different belt

oh yah...I think the knock sensor will be the newer style so your eng harness won't plug into it. You can however take the sensor from your old eng and install it into your new one. I myself would buy a new one even tho they are spendy. Everytime I rebuild one of these I recommend replacing them because it never fails that you get it all back together and after 2 days you end up getting a code 71 (knock sensor). Insurance against having to tear the intake off again

No because the oil cooler has one coolant line to the block and one to the waterpump. Just remember that if you ever hafta replace the w/p. Some come with the nipples and some without

They should be pretty much a carbon copy of oneanother.

eh nope

And you can just switch the oil cooler from your 91 to the 94, you will just need the correct water pump. I would suggest it since it sounds like you have a 4x4, and the engine came from a 2WD

For what it's worth, I would change the timing belt and WP before installing the engine (unless you have documentation it was done)

We swapped a 95 engine into a 91 truck. Same issues. We did the belt, WP, and swapped the oil cooler.

what neck of the woods are you from? Im trying to hunt down an SR5 interior from an Xtra cab... Also looking for a 5 speed if the truck had it. I'd buy it whole...

Thanks, in advance, for the reply.

the knock sensors are located under the intake manifold, and screw into the block right? think my service manual says there are 2 knock sensors on the 3vze

Yes thats where it is. No...3vz only has 1 knock sensor. There are 2 different styles. The early and the late style. The connector is the only difference. You ALWAYS replace the wire between the sensor and eng harness anytime you hafta pull the manifold off. Cheap insurance
