Okay my truck has about a 2 in lift with cranked torsions and blocks (not my choice bought it like this). And I am getting the itch to run a bigger tire! Would a 33-12.5 on the stock rim have any major concerns? The 30-9.50s are getting bald and look too small!!

 

Oh and FWIW I searched and only found info on 10.5s

 

well, i can tell you that you can fit 33x12.5 tires on a 90-95 4Runner or 89-95 pick-up.

 

cause i was under the impression that the widest and tallest you should go is 33-10.5 on stock suspension, mine is only 2 inches higher

 

I have 33x12.50 on mine with a 4 inch suspension and they rub up front in the back of the wheel well at full crank or if i'm turning and hit a bump. I'm going to get bj spacers and a little block in the rear to fix it myself. I would figure yours would rub with only t-bars cranked. My buddy with an 87 has 33x10.50 swampers on his and only t-bars cranked and i think they rub just a bit when cranked.

 

32x 11.5's w/ 1.5" t-bar crank and i only had slight rubbing on the pinch weld.

 

I am researching the same thing right now and from all of the reading I have been doing you should be able to fit 33x12.50x15's under there with no problems depending on the backspacing of the wheels you are using. It appears that general rule of thumb would be about 3 inches of lift required for 33's and another 3-4" for 35's. This is figuring you are running rims with approx 3.5'" - 4" backspacing.

I just ordered 1-1/2" BJS, 1-1/2" extended shackles to accommodate 33's on my junk. I also ordered my Detroit Locker for the rear, so this is fixing to get interesting.

eventhough its possible to run a 33 on the stock rims people i have talked to said to upgrade to a 15x8 rim

 

I know I might need to upgrade rims, but i dont air down or anything yet, Im not worried about a little rubbing, as i am going to undertake a SAS sooner or later, and my truck is not on the street that often, I just dont want to buy 10.5s and then once my sas is done, have to go out and buy 12.5s. You know what i am saying.

 

If you do a sas the truck will be high enough to make 33" tires look dinky.

I wouldnt go with a 33" tire right now, it will be a complete DOG with stock gears. Get another cheap set of the 30" then save your money for the sas,re-gear and tires

 

Well my truck looks dinky now with these small tires, I also never really get on the highway I really just use it around town. and I am going to keep the lift low with the SAS, the biggest i would ever want to run is a 35

 

I ran 33x12.50 BFG MT on 15x8 with 1.5" t-bar crank and 2" block and had no prob just pounded down the pinch weld and took off my lower valance

 

you might as well get some used 31's and start saving for a sas and bigger tires 33x12.50's would be weak on a sas

 

33 x 12.5 x 15 with 3.75 backspace trim the pinch welds and you should be fine but if your gonna sas it soon save the money because you will need to re gear for the bigger wider tires plus the fuel and brakes it will burn.

I went to 35's with my 4" lift and the set up described above and the front brakes and fuel mileage even with 5.29's went by by I'm sure 230xxx miles don't help either

 

i tryed to run a stock rim as my spare that was 33-12.50 and it rubbed really bad on my a-arm. i had a 4in bracket lift with 15x10 rims and dif backspacing it was fine

I thought this thread was about how wide of a tire will fit on a stock wheel? If you have a 15x7 or 16x7 stock wheel, I would not run 12.50 wide tires. At least that is what I've been told when I asked my questions.

I am running a 33x12.50 on a 16x8 and it's worked great on and off-road for 3 years. I would rather have a wider rim like I do on my p/u (15x10 /37x12.50) but I know an 8" wheel will work with 12.50's.

I wouldn't go any wider though without a wider wheel.

 

I'm pretty sure the pic you have is a 33x12.5 on a 15x6 wheel since its a steelie but I could be wrong there.

Anyway, to answer the question of whether or not the 12.5's will fit on a stock wheel: Yes they will, but the center of the tread will wear out a little faster than if you were to run a 15x8. Some people like to think that the 15x7 would be better for airing down purposes also. Another thing to consider is that a lot of tire shops wont mount the 33's on the stock wheels unless you take the wheels off the truck and bring them there.
