Most tires are usually .5" to 1" smaller than they advertise

Once you get to 30's or so it's more than that.
For instance, most 35's run (mounted on the vehicle) about 33"...

Most companies have a chart that shows actual tire diameter. I know BFG does. http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/specs...t-a-ko/44.html

And I can tell you that the chart is only correct for an unmounted tire, laying on it's side and maybe even flattened a little.
Mounted and on the vehicle it isn't even close.

Fred (also here in Tucson).

well the whole reason im asking this question to begin with is because i see a 4runner with a 4inch ifs lift and 35 inch bfg ats on it and if the bfgs arn't "true" size and i put a different kind of 35 inch tire on my runner and it being way to big because it istrue size. does that make any since? here is the runner im talking about and thats what i want to do to mine just different tires

for most of the tire mfgs. the tire size is smaller than the size on the side wall - but interco ( www.intercotire.com ) the company that makes sawmpers the advrtised size is the actual size . or within an inch or so. they also have one of those charts on ther site too.

When shopping for 285's, I looked at the Trxus M/T. 285's are supposed to be equivilant to a 33x11.50. IIRC, the Trxus is 32.7 x 11.2...one of the smallest 285's I found. The tires I ended up buying (Wild Spirit Radial TXR II's) measure 32.8 x 11.3.

Mounted and on your vehicle with all the weight, they measure 32.8" from top to bottom, correct ?
