Rear main seal

Mine is leaking pretty bad. Am I better off pulling the engine or dropping the tranny to replace it? Also, while I'm in there, what else should I take care of?

Dropping tranny. Better in most every situation I have came across.

It's a stick, right?- How's the clutch? If its headed downhill, I'd probably replace that while I was in there. Of course, with the clutch comes the flywheel surfacing.

Can't really think of anything if its an automatic.

If its a manual do the clutch, plate, bearing, and the two ltttle spring clips.

If its an Auto, drain the converter ! and refill with new stuff. Also do the tranny filter and new fluid. Hell the tranny is out, do the other seals.

I'd definately do the clutch and both pilot and release bearings while you're there.

When I pull the trans out of my new beater/project, I'm going to regear the xfer case while it's out. And prolly try the 4xInnovations crossmember

Put starter contacts in too.
