I've figured it out. Go to the store and buy some of that spray stuff for cleaning wheels. You know, that stuff that you spray on and hose off. Well, spray the lettering with it and let it sit 15-30 secs and then scrub the letters. I used a rag to scrub them so it wouldn't remove any of the white. The will become much whiter. I was very suprised once I did this. Now my tires look almost new.

Too bad I don't have a digital camera.

You better hope that wheel cleaner stuff wont weaken or crack your sidewalls over time...

 

Is that an issue?
I used all sorts of stuff on the tires I got stock - didn't notice anything when they came off.
I still have them in my garage - I'll have to check it out when I get home.

 

It shouldn't do anything to the tires...

i just use the shout spray and wash stuff you put on your clothes for stains. spray it on, let it sit for a minute or so, scrub it off. rinse. makes them sparkling clean



after that, spray some armor-all professional tire spray on there.

 

my friend cleans his white lettering with ajax i think...he says it works wonders.

 

Yeah, I use Ajax. Works great!

 

For the white letters? Water and a smooth rock. Trust me, it works wonders. I didn't believe it either until I saw it in action. Wet the tire and rock, and rub the letters with the rock. Then scrub lightly with a brush or rag, rinse and you're done. Best part is it can't harm the rubber like some cleaners will.

I'm not a fan of those tire coatings so this eliminates that for anyone else who feels the same. Then again I also put the white letters on the inside now so... Too many "white walls" from beating up the sidewalls and exposing the white layer all around.

 

I was trying to find something to remove the blue off of my new white lettered tires. A friend of mine who details cars for a living suggested using Goof Off in a spray bottle. I tried it and it worked great. It cleaned all of the white outline easily!

 

I second the rock and ajax. I use a flat river rock.

 

Here in WV we have some clay that will really stain your lettering and tires. The best stuff i have ever found bar none is called "Mean Green". It's sold at our Dollar Store for a $1.00 a quart in a spray bottle. My wife uses this stuff for everything and it also cuts grease like nothing. Just spray it on your tires and lettering, Let it sit for a minute and you willl see the dirt running off the lettering. Hit it with a brush if you want and rinse. They will look like new. Mike

 

I just tried a rock yesterday.
WOW, I'm really impressed! I actually didn't need Ajax or anything. Just used water to wash away the dirt and bits of rubber.

Kind of works like a reverse eraser. I ended up rubbing off a minute amount of dirty rubber from the lettering.
