new motor no power?

89 4 rnr manual 4x4 injected

newly built 22re sounds great in the garage and revs all sweet like, but doesn't start right away without a bit of pedal. When you drive it is sluggish above half throttle, although accelerates normally at 20 percent pedal.TPS seems ok,and I have a small problem with achieving base timing.I short the 2 terminals and it will show me trouble codes, but shows no sign of difference in idle when shorted. when I pull the jumper it doesn't advance from 5 btdc to the 10-14 called for in the manual. I also checked EGR and it isn't stuck open. please hit me with your thoughts. THNX

Misconnected vaccum lines are easy to do during an engine swap. If the distributor is not advancing, the ECU is not getting a vaccum signal, or the wire circuit from the ECU to the distributor is not complete. My guess from afar.

I have a truck behaving almost exactly the same. Fresh built 22RE, 268 (RV) cam, cleaned injectors, new gaskets, wires, cap, roter, plugs, yada, yada, but just can't make it run well.

Let me know if you figure it out. I am about stumped with mine.

Yes we did ohm the TPS.
The timing is not advancing when base timing is removed.
Otherwise advances normally just doesn't seem to be triggering base timing mode. But engine light will blink fault codes.
