Walbro fuel pump lowered my EGT by 75 degrees!

I just installed the Walbro fuel pump that gadget reccomends on his website. I ordered it from the people he linked to and they got it to me in 4 days. Not too bad at all. The install kit they included was perfect.

All I can say is, WOW! The EGT went down 75 degrees at it's highest point. The hottest I could get it was around 1450, where before I was well over 1525. (Sometimes 1550)

This is with stock injectors, and stock fuel pump wiring. All I did was drop in the new pump. I think this is the best $88 I have spent so far.

Any comments guys? Has anyone else seen this?

Dan:

How was the install?? Is there a write up somewhere and what size injectors did you decide on & price??

The install was easy except for one vent hose that goes from the top of the fuel tank to the fill-up tube. It took around 3 hours by myself without a transmission jack. (or much light, I started at 7:30pm)

The pump cost $88 shipped from the site that Gadget reccomends. I also used his "write-up." The writeup isn't very detailed, but the concept is so easy you don't need much.

With some better tools, I am sure I could do this in under an hour and a half if I had to again - but lets hope I never have to.

I went with the 305cc injectors. I bought them from Group Buy Mike. He decided he wasn't going to use them. I still need to send them out to have them cleaned and detailed. I need the S-AFC before I can install them.

Dan-

Did you realize any performance gains or ping reduction?

Not yet. I've only had a chance to put about 15 miles on it since last night after I finished installing.

I will say that it feels like it pulls a little harder between 3000-4000, but I doubt that is true. The TMC1.1 is still controlling PING, so I have no idea if there is any ping loss. I am going to set the TMC to it's minimum setting today on the way to work and see how that works. Ideally, the TMC will be removed once the larger injectors, new ZEX plugs and injectors go in. I hate the TMC; it kills power between 1500-3500rpm's. (half of the rpm band!)

You can really tell at 4000 when the TMC has the angle back in spec that the engine really feels much stronger. I know that thing is killing me.

I'll post tonight and let you know how the 24 mile ride to work went.

How loud is your Walbro pump? I am sure I need it, but saw a few threads about the noise (mostly on early installs). Any insights would be appreciated.

Silent. I cannot even hear it one bit. If I have the truck running, and pull the seat forward - then stick my ear on the carpet I can barely hear it.

With the radio off, and the windows closed - I do not hear it at WOT.

Also - new observation. The EGT now peaks at 1400. This is 150 degrees lower than the old peak. (1550) This is amazing!

Dan, what is the final thought?
Maybe the pump and TRD thermostat will get rid of my ping when I am at lower elevations.

Sorry guys. I decided to go out last night.

I would say that there have been no real performance gains, but I was unable to reset the TMC. I took out a friends 2003 M3 Convertable last night, so I have no idea yet what the new pump did. Damn I love that car.

The EGT refuses to go above 1400. That alone makes it worth every dime. That is nearly a 150 degree loss in peak temp.

I'll fiddle around with the TMC today and report back my ping results. I am also installing my ZEX plugs today.

Alright. Some hard information finally. Damn I am lazy on my day off.

Changing the spark plugs in 105 degree heat sucks. Especially when you lent out your 3/8" drive knuckle adapter. DOH!

I installed the new ZEX plugs and I even capped the cab side of the ISR mod. 9I bought the stuff to do it all, but chickened out because I also lent my drill to someone.)

With the fuel pump and new plugs I was able to set the TMC1.1 to 0 (which is 3.5 degrees of retard) I had set it to 0 degrees of retard but I could still hear a bit of ping... just a bit)

The EGT is still afraid to go over 1400, and I like it like that. I should know in a day or two, once the ECU recalculates whatever it needs to do, if there is a performance gain or not.

So far adding a Walbro fuel pump and ZEX plugs has given me 3.5 degrees less of retard from the TMC1.1 and 150 degrees less from the EGT. To say I am happy would be an understatement.

Maybe I missed it, what pump did you install? I'm confused with the 190lph high pressure, low pressure, 255LPH high and low pressure. With stock injectors, and even if I go to the 309cc injectors, if I do my math correctly, the 190lph should be fine. But high pressure or low? Thanks!

This is the KIT I ordered from AutoPerformanceEngineering.com:

FPT101
190 ltr/hr kit for Toyota trucks
$88.20

FPT101 is the part number. I ordered the pump and had it 4 days later. I would reccomend autoperformanceengineering.com any day.
