OK so i have tru-tracs front and rear in my 88 ifs and i am looking at doing an SAS this is probably a retarded question but is it possible to take the one from the front and put it in a 85 solid axle? and if so can i use the gears from it to? I dont think i can but it sure would save me some money

 

Nope, the gears/locker for your IFS front diff are not changable. The rear parts are though, infact you can take your rear third and swap it right to the front solid axle.

 

An IFS front diff is a 7.5" and the SFA diff is an 8" They are not interchangeable. That said you could buy one for your IFS, use it until the swap and then sell it for a reasonable price and buy one for your SAS rig.

I would trust both those companys, marlin's quality is great. Ive never heard anything bad about all pro. Trail-gear seems to get most if all the crap, but they sell for the cheapest.

but yes, your rear 3rd member will swap right into the housing of a solid front axle. You will have to plug your ABS speed sensor hole in the third if im not mistaken.

 

I've only looked at the All pro and Marlin but the marlin is like 300 bucks more and i dont know why, its essentially the same kit. I really want one my local 4x4 store said they would install one for 300 bucks and they have an 85 axle for 150 that just needs some refurbishing

 

Wow, thats a hell of a good price! I would have to pay over a grand easy for labor to get a sas kit installed. Factory sfa's go for a few hundred up here.

 

I dont know if he meant 300 to have the kit they offer installed or any but thats what i was thinking. Ya the axles ive looked at are a couple hundred as well. The kit isnt the bad part as far as money, it seems like it gets spendy once u start adding in new gears and lockers and labor. I dont know if i can justify that much money on something i dont nessacarily need

True Trak is the locker that behaves similar to a LSD on pavement, is this correct?

 

tru trac is a gear driven lsd, no clutches to wear out or anything like that.

 

No. It is not a locker. It is a limited slip, but as stated, is supposed to last longer since it has no clutch plates.
