You gotta be little more specific than that.
What sound program?
Did you install a 3rd party audio program?
Do you know what the "Device Manager" is and how to get to it?
If you are lost at that point, you can call me up and I'll help you out.
Just click on the link in my sig for my number.
Just don't call me during the Cowboy game (it starts at 3pm central).

More than likely you need the mamaboards drivers for the soundcard built into it.
Did you visit Windows Update site?

It should detect that you need the drivers and install them, or you can visit IBM's site and look up your model and get the drivers there.

Often you also get a separate drivers disc with the PC which should have that stuff on it.

It's an error 39. The drivers are there, it can't find the hardware...

OK, what tells you error 39? Windows? What/where? You have to be more specific, describe the screen/when you get the error, etc.

Error 39 occurs when windows cannot load the device driver for the hardware, in this case, the sound. Something is likely is up with the driver - did you check to see if sound was enabled in BIOS?

I have an IBM 600x, got it new and it cost a fortune back then. Excellent laptop really, but prone to problems/real lack of support at this age.
