Retaining Spring (brake job). I put it on upside down...

Ok, so just got done doing the brakes (rotor and pads). I realized that on one side, I put the retaining spring upside down.

(looks like this)

I don't think it will matter and won't change it until I need to take off the wheel for some reason. Unless you guys can think of a reason otherwise? If this were another less important part of the vehicle, I wouldn't be as paranoid, but it's the brakes, so just covering all my bases.

Thanks.

I'm by no means the expert, but, I can't imagine that it would make a difference. I almost did the same thing myself on the first one, but realized it just before I put the wheel back on.

Thats not a retaining spring, its the anti squeal/anti rattle spring. Keeps the pads still when not engaged. It takes 5 seconds to fix it, why not do it right for peace of mind? You could have fixed it in the time it took to type your thread lol.

btw, thats not the only thing there was it? You should have 2 pins holding the brake pads in, and a pin holding the two pins from coming out. If those pins are gone, you NEED to take it all back apart and install the pins, as there is nothing holding the pads in. They can fall out and then you'll really be in trouble!

For the sake of getting the basic point across, let's refer to that as the retaining spring. Besides, that's what the article on that site referred to it as. I realized that it was on upside down after I put the other wheel back on. But I really don't think it is a big deal, so I will just leave it that way until the next brake job.

BTW, all the other components were there.

Thanks, all.

Ha ha. Feel free to come by and change the "anti-squeal" spring if you're ever down here.
