I get in my truck to leave work tonight, it starts fine, I drive two blocks to Mcdonalds to get me some chicken nuggets, and I pull into the drive thru, my engine starts squeeling, Mind you I'm idling at 2,000 rpm or so on high idle.. And so I shut the engine off, and restart it, it stops for ten seconds and does it again, the idle drops, and the sound went away, Im a ways away cruisin to my house doin about thirty in third gear, and the mother er starts doin it again... Its not RPM related, because it doesn't get louder with rpm, it seems to dissapear, but it doesn't do it all the time. So I get home and check my engine bay over with my mag lite, and I look at my belts, I didn't look real long cause it was dark, but it sounds like I'm hearing a faint rubbing sound, or almost a soft grinding... Anyone got an Idea'r?

 

check the pulleys. one may be going out. when mine went out, it smoked the belt and it melted and broke, thus killing my battery QUICKLY, and caused the engine to heat up QUICK too. o yeah, shut it off, and see which one is hotter. i believe that will tell you which one is goin out.

 

check your fan clutch

 

Definitely an idler pulley on the front of the engine. They do this all the time.

 

or just a slipping belt...

 

I got to thinking earlier, and I have only used my heater recently, and so I toyed with it, and my truck only makes the sound if my heater is on...

 

In that case it sounds like your heater fan is the culprit.

 

Well I fixed the other sounds, they were just loose hoses, wires, and temp gauge lines and under my messy hood

But it makes this high pitched shrilling whistle when the heater is on, but it doesnt do it constantly, sometimes its louder and it varies in volume, sometimes itll pause for ten seconds.. any idea? This is driving me ing crazy....

 

try this turn the heater one and when sitting in the pass seat when it starts to make this sound get all jakie chan and drop kick that black box as hard as you can a few times if it goes away or gets worst then you know its the blower motor but just dont kick it to hard you might put your foot though it and hurt your self trust me it hurts and if you do just bring out the duct tape it will be good as new

When you turn on the heater, does the air conditioner come on too?

Maybe it's the compressor...

Heater...on DEFROST means the AC compressor is on too.

check A/C idler pully. betcha you get it.

 

x2, it's you ac pulley. turn the heater to defrost then turn on and off. It will only make the noise when it is turned on(clutch engaged, pulley turning).
