ok i tried to get it out but no luck it just striped the head but heres the question does that bolt need to be inside the intake and head for anything like if the bolts gone will it leak or anything like that cause its out but i dont wanna put it back in?????????? 87 4rnr 22re fi

 

you may have a vacuum leak at the intake. did you strip the threads in the block. you can get a new bolt at lowes or home depot and of course the dealer.

 

a real man can reassemble something with parts left over

I stripped that same bolt out the first time I removed an intake, now I know to put a vicegrip on it so as not to strip it out. Just go to Lowes or somewhere like tortis said and get a new bolt.

 

Put some antiseize on the replacement with a lock washer.

 

x's a trillion on any bolt that goes into aluminum

 

Why Toyota used an allen head bolt of that size for that application is a mystery to me. My guess is stupid. I replaced mine with a high grade hex head bolt of the same length. I second the use of anti seize on the threads.

If you leave that bolt out you will likely end up with a coolant leak, and what's worse it may leak into the intake port and cause a hydrlock condition, damaging the engine.

It looks to me like the reason they made that an allen head was so that you can get it off without removing the fuel rail.

 

Yeah, I had a really stubborn one and kept soaking it with a rust dissolving penetrating oil (PB Blaster, etc) AND hammering on the end of it. The whacks will break free the corrosion and the penetrating oil will eventually seep into the threads. Go to be patient. Also, by banging on the end, it will help restore the hex and you may be able to use a hex tool to remove it in a few days. GET A BIG CONTAINER OF ANTISIEZE AND USE IT EVERYWHERE. GET A SPARK PLUG THREAD RESTORE TOOL. GET A METRIC TAP SET. Words from a wise old Owl who's been there and done that.
