My 1988 4runner roll bar is the rear set one, its sorta wacked out a bit, i prepped and painted it a while ago but i just dont like the look of it when the tops off. I have seen a first gen with a later model dakota roll bar in it, with the really far set rear mounts. What do you guys think about that. Like looks and funtion wise?or any other ideas of what to do?

 

Cuz i can get a good deal but i dont want another roll bar in my yard, i already have one out of a newer pickup but it looks bad. I tried to paint one on my truck haha to see what it looks like, i cannot chop stuff. Any input much appreciated

Well the rear is to protect the rear passengers in the event of a roll over. A traditional roll bar wouldnt do much for that.

But it would probibly be neat, you would have to go custom though, to make sure it would allow room for the top to go back on.

 

Box in the Passengers in the rear and then come down on that sort of angle, its up to you though, your truck..., personally im unsure what kind of rollbar im going to be getting but its definatly going to protect ppl in the back, ppl in the front, and look kickass

 

I think if I was going to go through even the slightest amount of fab work I'd buy a pre-bent DOM cage, weld it up, and install it. The roll bar is there to keep rear passengers safe, the cab is semi strong enough to keep the cab pass/driver safe depending on the roll. To retrofit a rollbar from another truck just doesn't seem to add enough benefit to justify making it fit, it will still be a weaker thin wall and NOT dom or even real HREW. You'd be better off welding one up out of 4 inch schedule 40 pipe, elbows and all.
