i know this has been posted so many times but i forgot and i cant find the post again so yea sorry guys.the number thingy is g285 i know that g stands for 8" and thats all i know. i think i read some where that um the 5 meens 4 pinion lsd?? but im not sure thanks guys hehe

 

You have 8.0 inch ring gear, and 4.30 gears, and 4 Pinion LSD.

A factory LSD is VERY rare, consider yourself lucky

Nah... I'd like a LSD on my 4Runner, cuz I don't need locked all the time, I just need some torque transfer from the wheel that slips to the wheel that grips, not the other way around. I don't think I could afford a "Lincoln Locker"

There was a way of spining the tires with the rear end jacked up, cant remember much about it though.. I dont know too much about limited slip diffs

 

yea lift it up and if they both spin the same way its supose to be lsd but wen i lose traction on one wheel the one that has traction is not spinning?

 

hmm, well try this. find an open gravel parking lot and do some donuts.
If your arse end REALLY whips around then you have a LSD if not... then you have an open diff

With a limited slip - jack up the tires on the end with the LSD. If you can stop one tire from spinning fairly easily it is an LSD (IIRC). To engage the LSD like a locker when one of the tires lifts of the ground while wheeling) or when testing on jack stands. Apply brake while applying gas. You should have a much harder time stopping one of the tires, though not nearly as hard of a time if it were locked.


Basically when doing this brake trick while wheeling you fool your LSD into being 3/5 of a locker. Meaning you have 3/5th the power to both wheels that you would have with a full locker with one wheel off the ground. Not an ideal situation but better than no locker...

I have a LSD in my front (it was there when I bought it) and with the wheeling I do I have to use the brake gas trick all the time. It does work, but I am just waiting for my front ring and pinion too grenade so I can get a real locker in the front!

X2 on the donuts thing. I CAN NOT do donuts, unless it's fully icy(which happens every year here, but only a couple times). I have open diffs, if you can do donuts, then you probably have LSD. By the way, for some reason, I don't find locker donuts that satisfying. It's just too easy, and too perfect of a circle. I like some challenge, and some slop in my donuts, but NOT the 35 MPH circles that my 4Runner does so nicely with the open diffs. But that's just me.
