wheel spacers and shackles on an 85?
#1
I have an 85 4runner and I am trying to plan some mods. I don't get the chance to go wheelin much so this truck will be mostly a dd. I also have a toddler and baby so it needs to be safe and comfortable but still be able to run trails on occasion. In the future I hope to visit the cliffs alot which is a sloppy park full of carnage. I don't care too much about body damage cause it's just an old truck. I am checking over the drivetrain a little because the truck has sat for ten years. That should be done soon, It's running pretty decsent now. Only has 84,000 original on the whole truck! Anyways I have 31x10.5's and big fat fender flares(the tires stick in several inches from the fender) and I was thinking of getting some wheelspacers, mild shackle lift, and some taller, skinnier tires. I think I would like this look and shouldn't it make the truck handle better? I was thinking of the tall skinnies because they would wiegh less and then I might not have to regear. My truck turns the 31's just fine. I would like maybe a 33x10.5. Anyone got tall skinnies?

You can run wheel spacers. However, adding spacers up front will increase the chances of wheel rubbing since the wider stance will sweep a wider arc while turning the front tires and that is more likely to rub the fenders. For 33x9.50s or 33x10.50s, you'll need around 3"-4" of lift to clear:
