Oil Pump Drive Spline

I have asked a few questions on here and you guys have been pretty helpful, and we all know the best way to learn is to ask questions. So, I need to know how I get the oil pump drive spline off, in my manual it doesnt mention, needing special tools, and shows a picture of a hand removing it. I pull on mine, and it doesnt move, stuck a screwdriver behind it, and it moves a little, but doesnt seem like the right way to take it off, and I dont want to hurt anything. Do you guys know what I should do? For those who dont know, Its the gear that sits on the crank right behind the oil pump cover.

Well, you dont say which motor you have, but from your sig I am going to guess an 81 with a 20r? I have no experience with a 20r, but on my 22r its like you said, it just pulls off. Hope that helps.

I want to know how to get mine back on the crank. Mine is a 22re. Doesn't want to simply slide on. Any tips? Is it supposed to be super tight like that?

most likely the crank keys have been flattened .. sometimes when they are installed , people use hammers .. and they then will bind .

removal can be accomplished using a gear puller

as for the above post .. Yes , it should slide on fairly easly .. I would say look at your crank key .. it's probably restricting the install

yup, FYI, those crank keys should be replaced every time you have the crank pulley off. But if they are kit with a metal hammer when putting them into the crank, then the tops will mushroom out making it difficult to put the pulley back on.

The oil pump on my 86 4Runner grenaded its self and the drive gear. When i removed the oil pump it was nothing but chunks of metal inside. I had to replace the drive gear and oil pump, and everything came a part very easy, even the drive gear on the crank shaft, it just pulled off and the new one went right back on.
