OK here I go. I'm getting ready to go out and buy all the stuff for a tine up. My question is, What type of SPARK PLUGS & WIRES do you all think I should get. Also what else is needed for a compleat tune up.

I have a Stock 3.0 95 4 runner 4x4.

Please remember the 3.0 is stock, but want to use the right stuff........

 

Definitely go with the Denso plugs. You won't be able to beat them.

 

Are ther different DENSO types, if so, what ones would I get?

 

depends on your vehicle. Call the stealership and ask what the part number is for your vehicle. I did this then shopped around to get a better price.

 

Denso or NGK. They're the same thing. I think Napa carries NGK, but AutoZone carries Denso. When I changed plugs, I went with some NGK platinums. They were cheaper at Napa for the NGKs than at AutoZone for the Denso plugs. I ended up paying $1.35 a plug for platinums.

 

1.35 a plug for plats? thats a steal.

Definately go with ngk or denso, depending on which the store carries. Theres a whole lot of argument on here over which plugs to go with, but i'd spend the extra $4 its gunna cost at most parts stores to get the platinums then you wont have to deal with em for a whole lotta miles. Changing plugs on a v6 can be a real pita...

 

whatever you got, double check the gap according to your manual. last time(3 months ago) i changed my plugs, 2 of them were off a hair.

 

i just picked up iridium NGK's and wires from sparkplug.com. good site.

 

When I first got my 4runner, I went to sparkplugs.com and bought $200 worth of tune up parts. I got Iridium NGK's and NGK wires also. O2 Sensors are a pretty decent deal from that site too. Don't gap Iridiums, you'll break the electrode.

 

I buy my plugs and wires from the dealer, it's less than $20/set of 6 plugs. Proper plugs = peace of mind, knowing that you'll have another 24-30k of trouble free performance.

There's a date code on genuine toyota wire sets which is helpful 10 years from now... to remind you they're due for replacement again. Not cheap, but properly labelled, and good to go for a long time.

 

Yup... My plug wires say 1994! I thought about changing them since they have almost 200K miles. But they still look perfect and it still runs so good. Any thoughts? Is there any reason i should replace them at this point?

 

i think you'd find that after 200k and 13 years you'd get a fatter spark with new wires. the conductors in those wires are absolutely tiny and they vibrate apart very easily (especially after 13 years inside a hot hostile engine bay)

 

What brand of plugs and wires am I going to get from the dealer..............?
