Using only 1 channel of a 2 channel amp?

Is there any negative effects on an amp if I only run one of the 2 available channels? I only want to run my 12w6 and want to know if it would be detrimental to the amp if one channel was left dormant. I suppose I could bridge the channels and turns the gains down, but I would have to turn the gains WAY down...Which makes more sense?

no i run my setup this way. i had the amp laying around and didn't want to buy a new one. can't see it being an issue and i haven't noticed any difference in sound quality. i can still slump hard when i feel the need.

bridge the amp, turn the gains down. the output devices work only 1/2 as hard as they would this way.

2nd on the bridging idea. Seems as though the amp as a whole would last longer this way
