Powder-coat Pics! Stinger

Well it came back from the shop today with a fresh powder-coat. Looks like caricature of a hornet. I'll look even better with the yellow bike signals for eyes. I really like what he (Victor Yordy of The Metal Works- http://www.themetalworks.net/gallery/ ) did with the mounting plates for the signals. Not only do they bring the signals in at a right angle they support that stinger from a direct frontal hit on both sides and connect it to both halves of the horizontal bumper. The outside supports are welded not to far from that tight little triangle of support too. That rear bumper pipe also sits directly on the frame rails for extra support and leverages off the bolts on impact as well. I dont care what yall say but I got the Chicago 8000lbs winch. It's got a 4.1hp motor and seems pretty invincible to me. My buddys got one and abuses it all the time up here in the PA Appalachia mountains. WE get ass loads of snow up here and lots of hillbilly up roads. It's seen some duty and still get's it done. We'll see if the Chinese line workers were in a good mood when they made this one. lol

you should just make a build up thread of your project instead of making new post, i think it would be alot cooler to see where you started and ended up than just searching every thread, looks good though.

Your'e probably right. I Tried to rebuild a thread with all the stages but they will only let you download pics to one thread. Well, it'll be on the vehicle tomorrow. I'll post the pics here and maybe the links to the other threads.

I like it, however..... When I looked at that first pic I thought you got a bumper that had been extended and the two seats added to it... Kinda like a safari rig. Got the wheels turning in my head for a while, then dismissed it as probably not a good idea.

Nonetheless, nice bumper!

Ummm.... I don't know what to say. That is one low bumper! The stinger is kind of cool but how much worse is your approach angle now?

Props for thinking outside the box and getting what you want. It sounds like you really like it and that's what counts.

Well, it is higher than the stock bumper. The approach angle is actually better. The stock skid plate is exactly two inches lower at the front bolts than the skid on the new bumper. I think it looks lower in the pics than it does in person. I'll have to take some pics from up underneath so you get a better perspective. I put the main horizontal pipe just above the bottom of the stock bumper, It's just not as wide. To be street legal it has to be around the same height as the stock bumper with signals.

I really designed the thing to be a deer slayer/winch-horse. I'm getting a 4 inch suspension lift too (right now it's stock) so I'm pretty happy with the results.

the horizontal bar is way to low. It looks bad. Put another horizontal bar level with the bottom of the grille and fill the gap with diamond plate. Might make it look a little better...

Well it's no lower than any other stinger bumper I've seen except for the fact that the winch mount is usually BELOW that Horizontal bar but the clearance is the same. I could bring it up about three inches but what would I do about the grill? I would probably have to scarifice the Toyota symbol and all that to keep the winch close to the body. I see your point about the gap between the grille and what appears to be the start of the bumper though. I could cut the ends off the stock bumper and place the chrome on the corners to fill the space a little bit. I appreciate the feed back from everyone. I'm a little bummed that noone seems to like it but it's a work in progress right? Any suggestions on filling the space or lifting it and losing the grille??

I think it would be alot better if you cut it off and moved it back and up so it sits alot closer to the body. It looks like it takes up the same amount of space as a stock bumper.

This is a pic from one of the guys here on the forum. Look at the lower horizontal bar. It's just as low, as are most of the Baja bumpers Ive seen. Most of the ones I've seen take up just as much room if not more than mine. It's just that I have no upper horizontal bar and it looks kind of gappy. Should I raise it and have the winch right where the grille is and lose the grille or weld a small horizontal bar off the stinger flush with the grille?? Thanks for the feedback.

If you notice in the pics, yes the lower bar is low like yours but it angles up to the upper main bar. You are correct, most the bumpers have the winch about where you have it, but the main bar is still up just below the headlights. The bottom bar going all the way across is what is making yours look lower. Does that make any sense? I'll try to find another pic.

Also, your suspension lift isn't going to change how low it looks compared to the body.

Scroll down to the tacoma bumpers, one of the pics shows the stinger bumper with winch installed. You will notice that the stinger is very similar to yours and you can see how it angles up to meet the upper bar.
