i noticed about a week or so ago...i was driving home...stopped by a river...did a lil 4-wheelin...nothin big...just a few mudholes...started back on the highway..and noticed i had SOME smoke coming up through the cab...not much just a little....so i pulled over killed it...popped the hood....and noticed that my carb was smoking.......sadly i have no air filter...which is why i could tell that it was smokin....(i know i know i know...i need a filter)....so i had to get home..so i climbed back in and tried to start it...(1980 20r 4x4)..and it wouldnt start...at all...so i got out...got a small amount of gas out of my tank...pured straight into the carb..and it fired right up...but it did the EXACT SAME THING tonight...on my way to a friends house...so i was just wondering if anybody has ever had any problems like this...thanks

 

only thing i can say is take the carb out and generously clean it with carb cleaner. oh, and GET AN AIR FILTER!!!

 

This has happend to me once. I let it sit for a few days and it started up. Water in the carb?? In the tank? Could try flushing the tank
