temg guage spike = blood pressure spike
im trying to get rid of a heat soak problem with my 93 2wd 3.0 automatic.
has new fan clutch
new coolant
truck still gets hot going uphill on freeway in los angeles. empty truck,no cargo.
climbing 405 south from sf valley to mullholland with a/c on
90+ degrees ambient temp
3/4 of the way up the guage by the top of a 5 mile grade climb.
does ok in city traffic with a/c on
i feel like replacing radiator just so i can sleep at night.
water pump not pumping enough?
new fan clutch no good?
bigger than stock radiator?
add electric helper fan?
none of my other toyota trucks ever did this so i know something isnt right.

did u replace the thermostat? that would be my guess. or get a lower temp thermostat that way it opens before the temp gets farther up there so it would pump more coolant (or just start pumping coolant sooner)

ive heard that a lower thermostat will make it run colder than it should and not pass smog, potentially.
sounds like crap to me too
i did have a corolla once that i put a 165degree thermostat in and it idled at 2000 rpm untill i put the proper 195
it needed a radiator
so perhaps that is the answer.
id be afraid to drive this truck someplace like arizona where it gets REAL HOT instead of wimpy socal hot
