I have some questions about the Tundra Brake Upgrade

Hello,

I have read many of the posts about the upgrade and it looks easy. I'm wondering about the long-term conequences of this upgrade. I read that there was a TSB where the 199mm calipers were replaced by the 231mm calipers. Are the 199 calipers being phased out? Will I be able to buy parts for these calipers several years from now?

Thanks.

Doubt they'll be phased out. Just about every auto parts store carries the 199mm. Even if they are phased out how often do you need new calipers. Plus there's always junkyards.

Ditto above, only thing i want to warn you of is to NOT get brembo rotors. I went ahead and got some even after being told not to and they warped during the burn-in. now i have a pulsing when i stop, not as bad as it was before but it is there.

Did you use the insanely hard materialed toyota pads-that be why. Toyota pads are incredibly hard for some odd reason, thats why you can go 80k or mroe on a set.

Are the 199mm calipers used on any other vehicles other than those where they are being replaced by the TSB?

I've got the same problem, i believe raybestos are better? My brembo's warped pretty quick, but that could also be that my back brakes did very little braking until i adjusted them recently.

I use Centric rotors and cheap semi-metallic pads, no problems in the 10k miles I've done. Lots of towing a 3500# trailer in the mountians in those 10k BTW.

As far as caliper availability, I wouldn't worry at all. Absolute worst case would be having to send your calipers to a rebuilder. I can't imagine that happening until at least 25-30 years from now..

Tundra brakes are at the top of my "Best Mods" list, no doubt. Do it, you will not regret it.

I have had good luck with the Brembo rotors and Akebono pads. Bought them all from tirerack.com

I have done many trips hauling a trailer and I really like the difference. But I have the 231mm setup.
