Shift seat bushing installation

How the hell do you take the shifter apart to get to the bushing?

I only found a few comments about push down and turn from searching ... and, well, that ain't working. Any more specifics?

It looks like it needs to turn counterclockwise, but how? I'm just cutting my fingers trying to do it by hand...

The spring is kinda stiff but push down hard and turn about a quarter turn counterclockwise then you can pull the shifter out.

How - with your fingers, with something else? How do you get enough grip on it to turn it?

I was able to do mine with my fingers, but you might be able to do it with some channel lock pliers or maybe some large vise-grips.

What I ended up doing was drilling some tiny (1/16") holes in the sides, that gave me somwhere to get "traction" to rotate the cap. Easy as pie.

I used a set of large snap ring pliers and put them in the flat sides of the hole and as I pushed down twisted with the pliers...piece of cake.

I use a large screwdriver put it on the front left side of the opening and hit the handle pushing it down and counter clockwise.

needle nose pliers here.

looking at the shifter with foreward as 12 o'clock I put grabbed it around 10 (where the rounded and flat part meet), and pushed against the shifter handle (foreward and to the right) while also pushing down.

if you can understand all that you might be able to get it out lol

Ditto. Popped out no problem. The hardest part for me was trying to get the c-clip back in on the T-case shifter. That was a royal PITA until I got the system down.

i did mine with my fingers, only because it was already popped off when i took my shifter boot off. the little ridges at the bottom are broken off, so it doesnt lock in place...damn stealership wants $120 for the whole shifter assembly and wont sell that little piece of metal. on a side note, does anyone know any other transmissions that have that clip like the gseries transmission, that would have it? no junkyards ever have a gseries transmission.

I have a spare shifter if you are interested in cannibalizing it. Who ever had it before got the top housing off it and used some sort of epoxy to put it back together. It's not lined up quite right, but let me know if you are interested.
