So I've been thinking about buying new tires from ebay. But, I'll probably run into the same problem as I did with my shock and spring install. Most shops won't install the tires if I didn't buy from them, or they want $100 for mounting them. Maybe I should just buy some tire spoons and figure out how to mount the tires myself. Anyone deal with this after buying new tires or rims off the internet?

 

Kauffman Tire will do it cheap, but stay away from those guys!! They dont pay attention, we used to contract with them for our Mercedes Shop, but we moved contracts!!

Discount Tire if there is one near you, should do it relatively cheap.

i went to big o and they charged me 25 a tire.

 

TRUST ME just have them do it and balance them. it is a pain putting tires on rims w/out a machine and takes a while. dont buy new tires (around $500) and f them up putting them on by yourself or running them unbalanced. just spend the $ and do it right.

Or if you go w/ some place like Tire Rack, they have affiliated shops where you can have the wheels/tires shipped for local mounting. I did that once on my daily driver, worked fine, I think they ended up charging $12-15/tire to mount and balance on alloy rims.

 

Installing them right means getting the right balance.
For 3rd gen 4Runners (and others) the balancing needs to be done on the bolt pattern, not in the center of the wheel.

Believe it or not, the local Toyota place charged me $40 total starting with the tires in the back of the vehicle. These were nonstock tires.

Thanks. Toyota of Irving quoted me $99, but I'll call some other dealers and see what they say. Maybe an independent shop can do the job for $40 or $50. I'll keep checking.

 

Wal-Mart will do them for about $10 a tire and that includes lifetime rotate and balance. They did a good job on mine, can't complain.

 

yea walmart is cheap but they wont touch aftermarket rims or oversized tires, if your tire dont match your door sticker, they wont touch your tire
