2wd 1-ton Toyota Dually Axle
Does anyone have any details about the 1-ton 2wd dually axles put underneath toyota dolphins, u-hauls and work trucks? I am curious to know more about it...is it an 8-inch ring gear? Will standard 8-inch gears fit? Is it a full floating axle? How wide is it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Definitely FF, and I think they used the 8" diff (instead of the 7.5" normally found in 2WD)

that is a pretty cool pdf...but it still leaves some questions to be answered: anyone know the actual mounting surface to mounting surface width of the axle? can a standard 8-inch center section be traded into it? i would be very interested in answers to these two questions.

Big threads on this in Pirate4x4
First - off - they are not common
Second - its an 8 bolt lug nut pattern - so um - mis matched rims
Third - DRUM brakes
Yes - its a full floater
No one really uses this axle because the FROF kit does the same thing and its lighter and gives you rear disk brakes...
To get disk brakes on the Dually axle you basically do a FROF swap.
Then you need either
-- custome axles
-- LandCruiser axles
-- custom spacers
Its a ton of work to end up with an expensive version of the FROF kit....

1 ton dually axle replacement
I have a similar question I think. I just got a 1981 Toyota R22 Odyssey with a broken 1/2 ton rear axle. Doing some research, found out that the axles had been recalled for the mini RV's cause they weren't made to support the weight. They were apparently upgraded after '87 (for the 1/2 ton (standard on the Toyota pickups?)) but feel like the safest route would be to replace it with a 1 ton axle. Does anyone know compatible axles & differential for a Toyota R22 pickup? Or should I use 1 ton axles with the same differential? Or could I replace the axles/differential with a 1/2 ton pickup axle that I know will fit and relieve the weight enough by upgrading the leaf springs?
